2010 Lesmahagow Show Report and Results

The 2010 Lesmahagow Show was held on Saturday 29th May at Brocketsbrae Showfield (by kind permission of the Forestry Commission). Despite a gloomy weather forecast, the rain stayed away for most of the morning and only became a problem towards 3 pm, affecting the Prizegiving and the Adult Dog Show.
The Show proved a great success with gate numbers even exceeding those for last year's Show in brilliant sunshine. The standard of entries in all classes was high with especial interest in the Texel and Beltex sheep classes. There were no entries for dairy cattle, because of a bereavement in the dairy farming community, but the commercial cattle classes were well represented. The Champion of Champions prize went to a British Blue, Solway View Black Beauty, entered by Kevin Watret of Solway View British Blues, Annan. This is the second year that this magnificent animal has won this prize for Kevin.
The Tug of War competition proved very popular. This was the semi-finals of the West Area Young Farmers Competition in which teams from Lanarkshire, Clyde Centre, Ayrshire and Dumfries fought it out for four places in the final at the Royal Highland Show. In the Gents final, Biggar were first with Lanark second. The ladies section was won by Kilmaurs with Carluke second.
For the second year, the Show had a sheep shearing competition which this year attracted over 60 entries including shearers from Wales and New Zealand. The competition ran throughout the day finishing after 6 pm.
